The first times that we have to explain what Fermacell plaster fibre plates are, the most often asked question is the following: is it a kind of plasterboard? The answer is Yes and No.
YES because it uses the same
metallic substructure for plasterboard in the production of walls and wall
linings (guides and uprights);
YES because the laying and the
manpower employed are very similar to the laying of normal
plasterboard's plates;
YES because the laying speed and the
cleaning in the yard are very similar to the obtainable results using
plasterboard.
NO because plates are totally different in the composition: the plasterboard is plaster internally covered with paper on the two external sides; the Fermacell plasterboard plate is a mix of plaster and cellulose fibre (newspapers' recycled paper) and this fibre is present along the whole depth of the plate and it constitutes the armor of it.
NO because according to what has
just been said above, the plasterboard plate has a very limited
ability in bringing suspended loads (if it is not helped by
substructures) while Fermacell plaster fibre plates can
bring, directly on the plate, even bigger suspended loads than a normal
perforated brick can (suspended loads' chart).
NO because plasterboard plates are
not in Class 0 for the reaction to fire (unless there is a specific request)
while all the Fermacell plaster fibre plates are in Class 0 (in case of fire
they don't give off harmful smokes).
NO because normal
plasterboard plates have a limited absorbency of bumps, while Fermacell
plasterboard plates have overcome all the soft body
solicitations' tests (for instance someone who pushes the wall with the
shoulder) and the hard body's ones (for instance a stretcher that
beats against the wall) getting for both the certification issued on
the basis of the norm DIN 4103 part 1.
NO because despite the fact that plasterboard plates give a bigger acoustic isolation than the one given by the solution of traditional brick, they don't reach, on equal ticknesses, the obtainable values of acoustic isolation with Fermacell plaster fibre plates.
NO because plasterboard plates don't have any certificate of biocompatibility, while Fermacell plates are a product that entirely respects all the canons of the bio-building: in the production and in the final product. In fact already from quite a lot of years Fermacell products bear the following prestigious certifications:
IBÖ "Austrian Institute for the
bio-building"
The prestigious mark " TESTED
AND RECOMMENDED BY IBR" (Cert. - No. 3001-100), issued by the Institute
for the Bio-building Rosenheim GmbH on the basis of the excellent
results of the controls made on FERMACELL products.
In addition to these
certifications, FERMACELL has recently got the prestigious certification
"Product low emission" of the "Eco-INSTITUT" of Cologne
(Germany). The following products have been
checked (Test 15025-1/2/3) : - FERMACELL plaster fibre - FERMACELL
filler for joints - FERMACELL adhesive for joints (hardened) that
have been judged through control's protocols based on
harmonized European rules concerning: - contents (composition)
and products'emissions; - implications of
products'emissions in the housing environment (compatibility and
lack of contraindications for the human health and the environmental's
hygiene). According to the results got by all the products above
mentioned, "Eco
INSTITUT" has issued the mark (Label) "Product low emission/Produkt emissionsarm / " (exclusive mark of this prestigious institute).
So, not only a totally natural
productspan> in the composition of the single elements, but
also a product that respects in all the phases of the production all the
standards of biocompatibility and respect for the environment, certified by
the most severe world institutes of certification : a real guarantee for
those who have the planet where they live at heart.
